Fancy Dress Costume Hire

Love is in the air...... February 12 2015

Can you believe we are almost halfway through February already? It feels like Christmas was just yesterday, but here we are with Valentine's Day fast approaching. Love it or loathe it, it's pretty hard to ignore it! It seems like every shop, bar and restaurant has been shot by Cupid's arrow. Tesco has a range of cards to suit even the tightest of budgets!

Are you tired of the usual busy, overpriced Valentine's dinner date? Looking for something a bit quirkier? Maybe something much more impressive...

They are throwing a huge New Years Eve party at Shepherds Bush Empire and this year the theme is Great Gatsby Blowout!
So what should you get when you come in to use that lovely discount? Here is our guide to Gatsby glamour.

Great Scott! Secret Cinema Is Back......To The Future! July 21 2014

Interactive cinema event Secret Cinema Presents (a re-brand of Future Cinema) launches their latest event this week and it looks to be their best - and most immersive experience yet.

That's right, the creative and ambitious company are recreating Hill Valley for their Back To The Future show this summer. Unsurprisingly, the first run of tickets sold out super quick but they have since extended the run right through to the end of August due to demand. Secret Cinema seems to get bigger and better with each production and dressing up is...

Down with this sort of thing! Careful now! July 09 2014

Recognise that quote? Well you must be a fan of classic sitcom Father Ted! Good news then, as Tedfest is coming to London this weekend. The Friends of Ted Festival, or Ted Fest, is an annual fan convention usually held on the island of Inishmore, off the coast of County Galway, Ireland but this year it is also coming to the London Irish Centre in Camden. Tedfest London has plenty to offer fans including The Lovely Girls Contest, Ted's Got Talent, Priests vs Nuns 5-a-side football match, quiz, live music and much more. Rumour has it a couple of our panto horses may put in an appearance.......

He's getting married in the morning....... June 13 2014

It's that time of year. Stag and hen do season!

Also known as a bachelor party or buck's night, the stag do is the opportunity for the best man and friends to send the groom into married life with one last wild night (or, more often, a whole weekend!) to remember! The best man often visits our stores looking for the most embarrassing, unflattering, horrible costume to dress the stag in. However, some are kinder and choose a general theme for the whole group to join in with. If you're in charge of organising the festivities, here are some ideas.

Mad World Charing Cross hits the small screen May 13 2014

Very recently London was lucky enough to get a brand new channel on the EPG - London Live. As well as showing classic episodes of London set sitcoms such as Spaced, Peep Show and Misfits, the channel has plenty of original programming all about London. Last week, Mad World's Charing Cross branch featured on comedian and presenter Jeff Leach's new show "Jeff Leach +1". The show follows Jeff as he explores London's most unique and alternative nights out with the viewer as his "plus 1"! You can watch the full show on catch up on London Live's website here.

....and a happy new year! December 28 2013

We've had a very busy December here at Mad World, providing many Father Christmases, elves, reindeer and snowmen with their costumes and sold many a silly hat for Secret Santa and office parties.

The turkey hat was a best-seller!

Now the focus turns to New Years Eve and the many fun events happening all over London. Many New Year's Eve parties are embracing fancy dress this year, most of them choosing to go back in time to a more glamorous era such as 1920s Prohibition or classic Hollywood.

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife. June 20 2013

2013 is the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen's classic novel Pride and Prejudice and naturally there are events for aficionados  to celebrate the milestone. The Jane Austen Netherfield Ball, taking place in Bath this weekend, is a Regency dance with strict period dress code. All ladies and gentlemen are expected to dress in the style of the Regency or 18th Century period. The look is the Empire line, with a high waist just below the bust, very flattering and feels wonderful to wear. You could don your bonnet and find your Darcy at the Pride and Prejudice outdoor theatre at...

This Friday 7th, Rumpus Party returns to the Coronet in south London for a fun filled night of live bands, DJs for every genre, shows, off-stage performances, art and visuals. Rumpus has been likened to wandering around a festival, so if you enjoy the festival experience but not the weather or the camping this is...

Gatsby fever takes over May 30 2013

As predicted, the release of the new Great Gatsby film has caused a lot of people to channel their inner Daisy or Jay and try out some style from the Roaring 20s! There are plenty of events in London where you can sip cocktails and cut a dash across the dancefloor in full flapper attire.

There are two such occasions on Saturday 1st June – Prohibition Party in Bloomsbury and the Candlelight Club at a secret location! Both encourage you to dress in the appropriate fashion. Think flappers, gangsters, molls,...

Eurovision Final This Weekend! May 15 2013

The kitsch singing competition is hosting the 2013 final in Sweden this year, but don't let that stop you celebrating! Eurovision has seen a rise in popularity over the past few years as Brits have embraced the cheesiness. Many bars and clubs such as Bethnal Green Working Mens Club, Roxy Bar & Screen, Bunga Bunga and Phoenix Artist Club are hosting "Eurovision parties" involving fancy dress and frivolity. Eurovision viewing parties at home are also popular - invite your friends round, don some silly wigs and rejoice as Britain inevetably gets "nil point!" From top: Bucks...

You remind me of the Babe..... March 25 2013

After 10 years near silence, David Bowie is well and truly back. With an unexpected brand new album at number one and a whole exhibition devoted to him at the Victoria and Albert Museum, everyone is talking about the Thin White Duke. This means it is the perfect time to visit the Prince Charles Cinema for their Labyrinth Masked Ball! Back by popular demand, this is the perfect event for Bowie lovers, children of the 80s and fans of masked balls alike. The night begins with a pre-show hosted by "David Bowie" (unfortunately not the  David Bowie, he's busy) featuring a...

Hot Tub Cinema comes to town February 28 2013

Hot Tub Cinema have been popping up over London for a few years now, this week they are situated off Curtain Road, Shoreditch. This season of films is "All Time Classics" and they have chosen some absolute gems:

50s high school classic Grease

Vintage Tom Cruise in Top Gun

It must be love.... February 08 2013

Love is in the air as Valentines day is just around the corner. London has many great events planned to celebrate (or commiserate!). Naturally, we think the best events and parties involve dressing up in fun, elaborate costumes so here is the lowdown on the best ways to celebrate Valentines in style.

The ever popular Last Tuesday Society are holding a Valentines Animal Love Party on Friday 15th Feb at Islington Metalworks. They are donating 10% of the ticket price and 10% of the bar takings to Save The Rhino "so drink up you filthy animals"....

Electro Burns Night - A Scottish Soiree January 24 2013

Burns Night is also upon us and if you fancy celebrating in a more unusual way, we recommend Electro Burns Night at a secret location near London Bridge. Featuring whisky tasting, Highlands burlesque, interactive performances, DJs playing party, electroswing, soul and funk PLUS fancy dress competition! Naturally we highly approve of events that encourage partygoers to experiment with fancy dress and costume. The dress code for Electro Burns Night includes: Vintage, Tweed, Highlands, Lace, Hunting, Ballroom, Tartan Trim...... We think it sounds wonderful!
