It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.

2013 is the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen's classic novel Pride and Prejudice and naturally there are events for aficionados  to celebrate the milestone. The Jane Austen Netherfield Ball, taking place in Bath this weekend, is a Regency dance with strict period dress code. All ladies and gentlemen are expected to dress in the style of the Regency or 18th Century period. The look is the Empire line, with a high waist just below the bust, very flattering and feels wonderful to wear. You could don your bonnet and find your Darcy at the Pride and Prejudice outdoor theatre at Chatsworth House, thought to be the inspiration for Jane Austen's Pemberley, what better place could there be to step back in time to meet Elizabeth Bennet and her sisters.   We have a large range of empire line dresses and regency wear and our seamstress Shoni is busy handmaking even more!
