Feelin hot hot hot and this weekend's festival round up

We are loving this wonderful weather and dressing everyone up for BBQs, beach and boat parties –lots of pirates, sailors, Hawaiian babes and dudes! We are also excited to be making lots of new costumes to add to our stock. Having great seamstresses and wonderfully creative at both branches is allowing us to customize outfits to another level! Festival season continues throughout July and into August, following great weather for Glastonbury, Latitude and Lovebox it looks like festival goers will carry on enjoying the heat this weekend at Secret Garden Party and Kendal Calling.

Secret Garden Party, an independent arts and music festival takes place near Huntingdon, in the beautiful countryside of Abbots Ripton.  It’s popularity has soared since launching in 2004 with just a thousand attendees and one stage. The festival now boasts a 30,000 capacity and a huge range of attractions. SGP is considered a boutique festival, small enough to have a real community feel and be free of sponsorship. The creative minds behind the festival are innovative and humorous - events include Rebel Bingo, Dave-Off, London Leisure Pirates and even a powdered paint fight on the last day!

Their theme for 2013 is Superstition (get it? 2013!) and ticketholders are encouraged to dress up and explore their affinity to the supernatural, the inexplicable and the irrational. So why not get creative and go as a lucky black cat (catsuit and ears), broken mirror (lots of tin foil and body paint), four leaf clover (giant leaves!) or break the “no open umbrellas indoors” rule with one of our fun umbrella hats!

Kendal Calling is another independent boutique festival happening this weekend in a beautiful setting near the Lake District. This year the festival’s theme will be ‘Kendal Calling Goes To The Movies’. This year the whole festival will be a celebration of the movies. Every area of the festival will take on a different movie genre taking the festival-goers on a journey through cult classics and much-loved movies past & present. Without giving too much of the plot away festival-goers can immerse themselves in the Wild West complete with it’s own Saloon bar, get their freak on in the spooky Horror area and Haunted House, have an adventure in an area fit for Pirates and the likes of Peter Pan, hang out like gangsters and molls and have a whole host of magical adventures! Obvious classic ideas are superheroes (Kendal Calling organizers are even trying to break the world record for most people dressed as Superman), Sci-Fi and fairytales. The possibilities for film fancy dress are limitless, as when you think about it there have been movies made about almost every subject, decade, time period and theme! For ideas, see our website or facebook galleries.
